Dcorating On A Budget

Most Americans are spending a fortune decorating their homes for Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving when they can follow these simple tips and do it for less.

1. Drawing the plan.

Before going to the market or appliance center, identify your priorities for decorating the house. Decide what to buy and visualize to make certain that the items you are about to buy will look good together. Visiting websites and browsing through home improvement magazines that highlight great living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, etc. can give a home owner an idea about different themes. Home owners can also opt to buy cheaper alternatives for home decorations by buying items that are on sale or pre-owned.

2. Storing.

Keep the seasonal decorations in plastic containers to make sure that they will not be damaged over time. Have one container for each decoration theme for easy access and use color-coding for better organization. These decorations can be used for years depending on their durability and style.

3. Point out the focal points when decorating.

When decorating the home, it is not necessary to do all the parts of the house. Most people focus on the living room, kitchen, and dining room. In decorating the kitchen, buying refrigerator magnets, hand towels, or dishcloths at a discount is easy. Buying wholesale, when possible, will give the buyer huge discounts in comparison to buying in retail stores.

In decorating the living room, there is no need to buy antiques or expensive fixtures. Using houseplants or displaying photographs of family members is a great idea. Displaying the things that the family collects such as angels, scented candles, and miniature cars can add to the decor and be inexpensive.

4. Identifying the needs.

Some home owners put a piano in their living room for the sole purpose of decoration. If nobody is using it, it is a waste of money and does not necessarily mean that when something looks good in the house, a house owner is required to buy it.

5. On furniture.

Consider the size of the house before buying furniture. The rule of thumb is, it should fit and be easy to move around the house. Rearranging the furniture can be the cheapest way to decorate your home. Instead of buying a sofa, consider buying two loveseats especially if space is limited.

6. Accessorize.

Buy pillows or fabrics that compliment the colors of the house. Changing pillow covers to match a holiday can also be a money saving technique in decorating.

Everyone loves a nice appearing home because it reflects the personality of the homeowner. Going home at the end of long working day is worth looking forward to if the home is pleasant and orderly.
